DLA Elk Pasture Stormwater Management

The Elk Pasture Bioremediation Basins project brings together MSA, Virginia regulatory agencies, and military authorities to address stormwater runoff through an ecologically mindful solution. By strategically positioning filtration basins within the existing drainage patterns of the 26-acre nature preserve, the collaborative effort aims to intercept and naturally filter surface runoff before it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Native vegetation was carefully selected to absorb excess nutrients without disrupting the habitat. Compliance reviews ensure the project meets regulatory guidelines at each phase. The basins reduce nutrient and sediment loads and serve as a testament to pragmatic environmental stewardship.
